17:51 Boy 8, kills father and friend after 1,000th spanking» So-There Forums
The story of the Arizona 8 year old who killed his father and a boarder staying at their house made headlines earlier this month.

Now we are getting details that the son was often spanked. He kept track of them vowing that the 1,000th would be his last.

The unnamed boy allegedly shot dead his father, Vincent Romero, 29, and Timothy Romans, 39, their lodger, at the family home in St Johns, Arizona, with a .22 rifle as they were coming home from work at a local power plant.

The double murder on Nov 5 shocked the US, with investigators initially struggling to find any motive.

However, according to police records reported by the Arizona Republic, the boy "is believed to have made ledgers and/or communicated in the form of writings about his intentions" if his father and stepmother continued to smack him.

According to the police records, the boy told a Child Protective Services official that "when he reached one thousand spankings . . . that would be his limit. [The boy] kept a tally of his spankings on a piece of paper."

Despite his age, relatives suspected the boy immediately in the shootings. His grandfather told investigators: "If any 8-year-old was capable of doing this, [the boy] was", and the child's grandmother added: "I knew this was going to happen, they were too hard on [him]."

The boy told police he was smacked the day before the shootings for failing to finish schoolwork.

Records indicate the boy had no history of psychiatric care and was not on any medication.

Police say he gave conflicting accounts about the shootings, initially saying he discovered the bodies when he returned home from school.

He later changed his story, admitting he shot each man twice to end their suffering after they had been shot by an unknown assailant.

In an interview whose contents was later released by police, the boy admitted he been angry with his father after the latter asked his stepmother to smack him for not bringing some schoolwork home.

At the end of the interview, he buried his head in his jacket. Asked by an officer what he was thinking, he replied: "I'm going to go to juvie."

If this is in a inappropriate section to post this (Evan) please shove it to the proper area MOD's it would be appreciated ... Although *most* of the plea below is copied from a SecondLife Notecard I figured since I'm in most realms anyway in one form or another this would be the best place to post. It's funny how the thought of what the word family encircles has changed in the last two generation's, first being your blood family then progressing to mean a close circle of friends to the current day where it reaches across the Earth upon the net to all the great people we meet and get the pleasure of having thier minds and hearts open to all.

My name is Andrew Sertich however most everyone know's me by my SecondLife name of Ensign Barkley ... also may know that I run a Muscular Dystrophy support group mainly because I feel it the best way to help my peers with Muscular Dystrophy aswell as those interested in our issue's and our greatness.

Then again maybe you know me from the Gorean Community in SecondLife which I have been a member of since the first day I logged into this wonderful World/Community. My Home Stone(s) have varied through the years from Aradon's Original Port Cos to now an the Wonderful City of Turia and all in-between.

Also I could be remember as a Tringo & SLingo/DMC Host at the retired gaming Island of IceDragon's Playpen where my Wife and I work for almost 18 months straight.

No matter where you might know/heard of me from is not the issue here but rather I had wished to give a brief showing of the life I lead, which happends to be primarily a Second Life (not just SL but meant as online simply though alot is done in SecondLife) where obviously I depend on my Laptop/PC.

Three days ago my Laptop was rushed into the local PC Shop where I was told to basically start saving for a new computer as nothing could be done, something about it being a flaw in the Hardware (HP Pavilion dv6000 Series). So to get to my overall point I am swallowing my pride an comming to any and all of my friends, associates, and just plainly people who have an open heart...

I am Andrew Sertich an my income is that only provided by the Government for my Disability (SSI) an I come to the Community(s) here in SecondLife to ask for some Holiday Help. If you can find it in your heart to help it would be more then appreciated, it would also help in the continuation of my efforts In-World for the disabled an especailly for the MDSLA.

21:41 Full-size cardboard figure causes bank standoff» So-There Forums

QUOTE
MONTGOMERY TOWNSHIP, N.J. – A standoff at a New Jersey bank is over after police learned a "person" seen inside was actually a full-size cardboard figure.

Officers went to the PNC Bank in Montgomery Township on Thursday night after an alarm went off. They saw what they thought was at least one person through the windows of the bank, which had its blinds drawn.

The area was sealed off and three nearby apartment buildings were evacuated as a precaution. Meanwhile, authorities used bullhorns and made telephone calls in a bid to make contact with whoever might be in the bank.

After repeatedly failing to get a response, a SWAT team entered the building and discovered the cardboard figure.

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/29/business...ml?ref=business

Suddenly, witnesses and the police said, the doors shattered, and the shrieking mob surged through in a blind rush for holiday bargains. One worker, Jdimytai Damour, 34, was thrown back onto the black linoleum tiles and trampled in the stampede that streamed over and around him. Others who had stood alongside Mr. Damour trying to hold the doors were also hurled back and run over, witnesses said.

Some workers who saw what was happening fought their way through the surge to get to Mr. Damour, but he had been fatally injured, the police said. Emergency workers tried to revive Mr. Damour, a temporary worker hired for the holiday season, at the scene, but he was pronounced dead an hour later at Franklin Hospital Medical Center in Valley Stream.

06:35 Your Favorite US Skyscapers» So-There Forums
Found this thread on another forum, and I think skyscrapers are kinda neat, so we can try it here. Most imported threads don't work well here, but we can try. My favorites:

AT&T Tower aka "Batman" building in Nashville.

Comcast Center in Philadelphia.

The Chrysler Building. Yes, I know this is one of the buildings in Manhattan, like ESB, that have been photographed to death over the decades, but I think it is one of the Grande Dames of skyscrapers. There are taller buildings in the world now, but none are more graceful and majestic than Chrysler, not even Madame Empire State Building.

Woolworth Building in New York. Another beautiful building from the golden age of American skyscrapers. Like Chrysler, there are taller and more imposing buildings these days, but few as grand.

Columbia Center Tower in Seattle. I'm not really sure why I like this tower. It's odd, it's black, it's imposing, but I always loved it.

I found a pretty interesting site. It features every page of department store catalogs from the 40's through the 80's. Sears, JC Penny, Spiegel, Montgomery Ward, and a few others. Especially check out the toys and clothes sections. biggrin.gif It's also cool to look back on the electronics sections from the 40's and 50's. Anyway, I thought some of you might get a kick out of it.

QUOTE
A 12-YEAR-old American schoolboy has been arrested for farting in the classroom.

Police were called when the boy became disruptive, shutting off the computers of classmates and "deliberately passing gas" at his school in Florida, The Smoking Gun reports.

The 150cm offender was also accused of shutting off the computers of classmates at Florida's Stuart's Spectrum High School.

Busted by school authorities for disruption of a school function, the boy was taken to the County Sheriff's Office.

Police said the boy, who name was suppressed due to his age, admitted the offences and was released into the custody of his mother.

Wow I just realized I didnt see an announcement for this.

There now has props. Basically they replace drinks and can be attached to many different nodes on the body. One prop at a time but a builder can pick up to 5 nodes to attach it to. Obviously this is going to revolutionize There.

I knew I should make a bunch but I'm dumb as crap and didn't. There aren't too many out yet but the ones out really are good.
